Birthday Cake Video

Here's a video of Huxley eating his dinosaur birthday cake. He loved the green icing.

Bye-Bye Bottle

He's been officially broken of the bottle. I got rid of the bedtime bottle feeding Friday night, and he's adjusting well.

Cold & Snowy week

Temperatures have been frigid here this week. We got four inches of snow, but lucked out on the 10 foot snow drift. I still have hope it will come. Huxley and I have mostly watched the snow from inside our somewhat warm house. We both came down with colds this week further limiting our outdoor excursions. I got over mine pretty quickly, but Huxley's cold is still lingering. We're also awaiting the arrival of tooth #8, so the fussiness will probably not subside until then.

Franken-Baby

That's Huxley's new nickname. When he walks he totters back and forth with his arms out to the side. It's very cute. I'll have a video posted soon of his adventures walking.

Month 12 Happenings

Here's what Huxley was up to in month 12....

Walking:  He took his first steps on his own but still crawls as his main mode of transportation.  He's gotten more gutsy recently and will walk across a room by himself.

Hide & Seek:  He loves to hide behind furniture and sit quietly until he's found.  He'll hide behind just about anything - couch, high chair, and large toys.  He also loves to be chased.

Adventures:  Huxley had his first visit to the Children's Museum.  He loved the playscape and played in water and sand.  He also got to see the dinosaur exhibit and that was about as much as he could handle.

Bye Bye Formula:  We transitioned Huxley to whole milk from Similac Advance.

Weaning:  It hasn't been an easy process, especially with Huxley getting more teeth, but he's now down to two bottles - his morning and bedtime bottle.   I've been trying to take away the morning bottle this week, but he's been waking too angry to even entertain the idea of not having his bottle.  I read giving a bottle of water will soothe/trick baby and then you can give him a sippy cup.  I tried that, but Huxley can't be tricked.

Climbing:  He likes to climb into his toy boxes and throw all the toys out.

We're really looking forward to seeing the little guy grow in year two and all the adventures and tantrums that come with it.

One year check-up

Huxley had his one year check-up this morning which he absolutely loved and is already looking forward to his 15 month check-up.  Not really.  He was tested for lead poisoning and passed, so I haven't been feeding him lead paint chips after all.   A nurse pricked his finger with a needle and squeezed his blood into a very very tiny test tube.  I held him in my lap and held down his arms while Huxley kicked the nurse over and over.   He's a squirmy little guy.

After the lead test, the nurse came back with more fun - needles and another nurse.  He received a Prevnar and Hepatitis A shot - one poke in each leg.  After the vaccines, he was throwing himself around the floor as I tried to dress him.

Month 12 Stats:

Weight:  23.5 lbs - 64th percentile
Length:  31.5 inches - 90th percentile
Head:     47.6 cm - 80th percentile

His next check-up will be at 15 months.  By then he should be able to say 1-3 words, follow simple commands, may point to body parts, and imitate adult behavior.

Tooth # 7

It's been a while since Huxley's gotten a tooth.  He started teething last May and one tooth after another popped through from May through August.  It's been a nice reprieve from the teething monster, but he's back.  Tooth number seven and soon number eight will be making their appearances on Huxley's lower jaw.
