11 Month

I'm a little late with this as I've been finishing up papers and final exams. I'm finally done for the semester so I'll work on updating you all with Huxley's latest and greatest achievements.
As for us, we are gearing up for Christmas and the little guy's birthday. His presents were bought months ago, of course. We've even put up a Christmas tree with a train around it that Huxley would love to get his hands on.

Here's what the little guy has been up to....

Affection: He is such a loving baby.    He give hugs where he holds onto you really tight and nuzzles his head into yours.  He even gives his stuffed animals hugs.  Spike was resting his head on one of Huxley's stuffed animals and Huxley had to join in.  He crawled over and put his head on top of Spike's.  Then he proceeded to try to put Spike's nose in his mouth.

Stairs: He started motoring up the stairs early in November.  He doesn't venture up the stairs by himself, only if he has strong some strong motivation.  It's a lot of work.  He got sweaty the first time he climbed the stairs, and I don't think he's ever sweated before.

Pushing Chairs/Carts/Anything: He pushes whatever he can get his hands on around the house: his toys, tupperware, dinning room chairs, his high chair, laundry baskets, etc. He's gotten good at turning and backing up when he crashes into something.  When he's tired of pushing random objects around the house, then we have to walk around holding his hands.  Typically, he just wants us to walk him in circles around the island in the kitchen.

Vocalizations:  He's quite the talker.  He says mama, dada, dog, nana, baba, and a host of other sounds. He's big on saying dada right now. It's very cute.  He'll even crawl over to Jason screaming dada.  We've also noticed he's a sleep talker.  We've both woken up in the middle of the night and heard him saying dug dug and then hear him snoring.

Third Cold:  We've had few sickness his first year, but after Thanksgiving everyone got sick. We're still getting over it, but it hasn't been so bad. Huxley just turned into a big snot factory and absolutely hates getting his nose cleaned.

First Thanksgiving - We visited the Wendling's and Goldey's for Thanksgiving and Huxley got a double dose of Turkey which he just loved. I couldn't seem to find enough food to keep him satisfied.

Throwing toys out of crib and bathtub: When he's trying to fall asleep he stands  in his crib and throws everything overboard. He even shut his monitor off when he threw Winnie the Pooh out of his crib. He especially loves to throw his bath toys at me. It's not just good enough to throw them around in the bath tub they must be thrown out of the bath tub. If they land on the ledge he picks up the toy and makes sure it gets thrown out of the bath tub. Daddy also taught him how to throw other toys. In a couple of months I'm sure he'll be very destructive.

Big boy bathtub: Speaking of bathtubs, Huxley moved out of his baby bath tub last month and into a regular bathtub. He started standing up and stepping out of his baby bathtub, so I figured he was probably more than ready for a regular bathtub.

Last month of Formula: We picked up our last cartons of formula to get us through the end of this month. We've been spending 30$ a week on formula so it'll be nice to get rid of that expense, but I'm sure something else will pop up to take its place.

Adventures in food: He's eating all adult food now. He loves baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, yogurt, pizza, ham & cheese sandwiches, bananas. The food he doesn't like he just spits out or pulls out of his mouth with his hands. He hasn't been too thrilled with broccoli, but who is?  He absolutely loves yogurt after first detesting it.  He used to cry at the sight of the yogurt cup, but now he bounces in his high chair and giggles.

Gymboree

The day after Thanksgiving, all three of us played at Gymboree.  It was Jason's first visit, and he got to see what a blast it is there.  If only, there was an adult Gymboree where you could jump into ball pits, go down slides, and bounce on trampolines.

Huxley showed daddy all of his tricks.  He ran through tunnels, climbed ramps, bounced on the baby trampoline, and ate anything he could find.  Just as Huxley looked as though he was ready to leave, a staff member dumped a bucket load of balls all over Huxley.  We had to stay for another half hour while Huxley went crazy with the balls.  We all had a great time.

Huxley has a weekly play and learn class at Gymboree.  It is a structured class where we sing songs and an instructor has obstacle courses and games for the babies to play.  We also go to free play once a a week where I just let Huxley run wild.

Huxley's First Thanksgiving

Huxley started his Thanksgiving at the Wendling's with his Aunt, Uncles, Grandparents, Great-Grandpa, and five very insane dogs. We contributed to the madness by bringing Buffy & Spike. Luckily Spike didn't pee anywhere (that we know of).

Huxley got his first dose of Turkey, aside from the baby food turkey he's eaten before, and just loved it. He ate so much, I was running out of food to feed him and had to resort to feeding him Cherrios. After lunch he became fascinated with his portable high chair and pushed it all around the house. He even found his Christmas present and marked with his teeth.

Later that afternoon, he had his second Thanksgiving feast at the Goldey's. We tried for a nap, but it was too late. He had already gotten his second wind and was ready to terrorize everything. He crawled everywhere and got to hang out with cousin Griffin.

I don't think I gained any weight from this Thanksgiving because I was too busy chasing around the little guy. Once we got home we put Huxley to bed and then went to bed ourselves.

Stairs

Huxley conquered the stairs today.  He even worked up a sweat which I don't think he's ever done.  He had a blast and giggled as he nearly ran/crawled/wiggled up the stairs.  He tired himself out so much that he had two-two hour naps today.  Maybe he realized he got an extra hour of sleep today from daylight saving time.  I think before bedtime I'll make him do the stairs again just to get him worn out for sleep.

Huxley at 10 Months

Here's what the little guy has been up to...

Dogs:  He's really been after the dogs this month.  We're trying to teach him to be gentle, but I'm sure that idea will take years to sink in.  He likes to grab a hold of Spike's ears and pull him to the ground...and Spike just lets him.  After I rescue Spike, he doesn't run away but sticks around for more torture.   Huxley also likes to grab their feet and tails or just pull their skin right off.

Separation Anxiety:  Cardinal Fitness has a daycare center, so I started leaving Huxley there while I work out.  We're still working through some separation anxiety issues, but he's getting better.  I normally get him started playing with something and then quietly try to sneak away.  This doesn't work.  If I move an inch, he screams.  Today he was much better.  I eventually got him settled down with a toy and was able to actually work out.  Of course when I came back, he wouldn't let me gather up his toys.  He came crawling over and started to whine and crawl up my leg.  I had to pick up his toys, coat, diaper bag with him attached to my hip.  At least he was glad to see me.

Gymboree advancements:  He's been going through the obstacle courses and tunnels and is about to advance to the next level.  I've even been taken him to open play night, and he gets to play around other babies.  At this age he doesn't really play with other babies - they're all too dangerous for that.

Pushing objects:  He loves to push objects when he's crawling or standing.  He'll push books, drawers, laundry baskets, and anything that can be pushed.  At Gymboree, he found a large basket of toys to push around the play gym and aimed straight for another baby.  He got angry when I veered him off his course.

Crawling:  He's realized how to crawl over and under things.  Before he would just keep ramming his head into something and get frustrated he couldn't get what he wanted.

Fits:  They keep getting worse.  He has a fit every time I put him in his high chair.  Once I get him strapped in he uses his arms and legs to keep me from getting the tray snapped onto the high chair.  The high chair should come with leg restraints.

Pulling up/Cruising:  He's starting to walk along furniture, but seems content to crawl everywhere.  It gets him where he wants to be and pretty quickly too.
