Umbilical Cord

I accidentally knocked Huxley's umbilical cord off during a diaper change today. There was a tiny amount of blood, and I freaked and called the emergency line for our pediatrician. The nurse I spoke with was like, "so why are you calling?" She told me to apply pressure to stop the bleeding and call back if it doesn't stop within ten minutes. It seems like very basic first aid, but I'm still in my post delivery fog and he's only eight days old. It was about time for the umbilical cord to fall off anyway. They normally fall off within 7-10 days. It seemed like a major crisis at the time, but really isn't a big deal.
